How Sweep it is

I did well at the 2015 Press Club of Long Island Media Awards. Common Core mockery was popular with newspaper judges this season.

My winning entries:

First place, from Newsday
The judges said, “A clever take on the local – and national – drama surrounding Common Core educational standards. It is well-drawn, with nice use of color.”

This past weekend was the NY Press Association’s “Better Newspaper Contest”.
I scored my first statewide first place award. The judges had this to say:

“Great job in bringing a universal truth to a local issue.”

Here’s the winning cartoon and your daily dose of universal truth. I knew the common core was good for something.common_core

Three outta three.

The 2015 Press Club of Long Island Media Awards were held the night of June 4th. In the glittering company of Long Island media’s best and brightest, I snuck away with a few awards. I can only imagine no one was paying attention.

A bit of trivia, the second place deer cartoon also took third place in this year’s New York Press Association Better Newspaper contest, making it my first cartoon to win two awards.

Hat Trick!

The Press Club of Long Island announced it’s 2013 Media Award winners last night.
I won all three places in the “Visual Media: Cartoons” category.

The two black and white cartoons ran in the Long Island Business News.
The color one ran in Newsday.
