How Sweep it is

I did well at the 2015 Press Club of Long Island Media Awards. Common Core mockery was popular with newspaper judges this season.

My winning entries:

First place, from Newsday
The judges said, “A clever take on the local – and national – drama surrounding Common Core educational standards. It is well-drawn, with nice use of color.”

First!

Bodkin

This past weekend was the NY Press Association’s “Better Newspaper Contest”.
I scored my first statewide first place award. The judges had this to say:

“Great job in bringing a universal truth to a local issue.”

Here’s the winning cartoon and your daily dose of universal truth. I knew the common core was good for something.common_core

Three outta three.

The 2015 Press Club of Long Island Media Awards were held the night of June 4th. In the glittering company of Long Island media’s best and brightest, I snuck away with a few awards. I can only imagine no one was paying attention.

A bit of trivia, the second place deer cartoon also took third place in this year’s New York Press Association Better Newspaper contest, making it my first cartoon to win two awards.

First Place, from Newsday:bad for business

Two out of three ain’t bad.

My editorial cartoons with Anton Media placed second and third in the 2014 New York Press Association “Better Newspaper Contest”.

Second Place, from the Levittown Tribune:
The judges said, “Mr. Bodkin created a cartoon with a great attention to detail and a good comment on the over assertiveness of the national television media”.

Second best cartoon in NY.

Last weekend the New York Press Association held their annual Spring convention and 2013 Better Newspaper Contest. I’m pleased to be among Anton Community Newspaper’s winners. I placed second for editorial cartooning with this entry, which ran in the Port Washington News on the Dec. 6th 2013.

A Major Award

Every spring the New York Press Association has a convention for it’s member newspapers and announces the “Better Newspaper Awards”. This year I scored an “honorable mention” in division 2, where all the cool newspapers hang out, for editorial cartooning with the following minor masterpiece. “Timely, pulls multiple emotional threads”, commented the judges.
