The NY Islanders are planning to build a practice facility in Hicksville, probably in an attempt to placate all the fans they snubbed by leaving town.
It seems like someone wasn’t thinking ahead when they, um, took my suggestion.
The 2015 Press Club of Long Island Media Awards were held the night of June 4th. In the glittering company of Long Island media’s best and brightest, I snuck away with a few awards. I can only imagine no one was paying attention.
A bit of trivia, the second place deer cartoon also took third place in this year’s New York Press Association Better Newspaper contest, making it my first cartoon to win two awards.
Second Place, from the Glen Cove Record Pilot:
The nature of how and where I’m published usually means I trail current events. Not this time.
Here’s my cartoon published in the May 9th edition of Newsday.
On May 14th, Newsday ran a story headlined: “Islanders selling ‘ice’ from final game at Nassau Coliseum”
The lede of the story is, and I quote:
“It may be the most expensive bottle of water in New York.
The Islanders are selling melted ice – i.e. water – from the Nassau Coliseum’s final meltdown before the Isles move to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn next season.
The cost? Twenty dollars (plus shipping and handling). There’s a limit of five tubes per order.”
It seems to me someone owes me a cut, or a few bottles of “ice”, at least. I’ll wait.
My editorial cartoons with Anton Media placed second and third in the 2014 New York Press Association “Better Newspaper Contest”.
Second Place, from the Levittown Tribune:
The judges said, “Mr. Bodkin created a cartoon with a great attention to detail and a good comment on the over assertiveness of the national television media”.
Third Place, from the Syosset-Jericho Tribune
The judges said, “Well drawn” and “Well done”.
