The 2015 Press Club of Long Island Media Awards were held the night of June 4th. In the glittering company of Long Island media’s best and brightest, I snuck away with a few awards. I can only imagine no one was paying attention.
A bit of trivia, the second place deer cartoon also took third place in this year’s New York Press Association Better Newspaper contest, making it my first cartoon to win two awards.
My editorial cartoons with Anton Media placed second and third in the 2014 New York Press Association “Better Newspaper Contest”.
Second Place, from the Levittown Tribune: The judges said, “Mr. Bodkin created a cartoon with a great attention to detail and a good comment on the over assertiveness of the national television media”.
Third Place, from the Syosset-Jericho Tribune The judges said, “Well drawn” and “Well done”.
The second in my “Hazmat Series” offers some suggestions on what and what not to wear this season. I don’t know about the way the vampire is looking at the witch. They may have something going on behind my back.
Our brains seems to have trouble processing the risks of modern life. Deciding to avoid being eaten by cheetahs, we can do. Dealing with statistics, media feeding frenzies and what Carl Sagan would call “baloney”, not so much.
It’s another in my hazmat suit series – and there are more coming. I’m thinking of it as my own personal Cornetto Trilogy.
